Kolache Factory Honored with 2025 Cherish the Child Award for Impact on Children and Families In Houston
February 23, 2026 // FranchisePR.com // HOUSTON, Texas — The Kolache Factory is honored to receive a 2025 Cherish the Child Award from The Children’s Assessment Center (The CAC), a prestigious honor presented annually to outstanding supporters whose contributions have made a lasting difference in the lives of children and families affected by sexual abuse in Houston.
For the past three years, Kolache Factory has hosted in-store donation drives across its locations, inspiring both team members and customers to give generously. Through these efforts, more than $50,000 has been raised to provide shoes and socks for children and families visiting The CAC’s “Rainbow Room,” a safe, welcoming space where families affected by sexual abuse, can select clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, and other basic needs during their visits.
“The Rainbow Room was designed as an inviting place for families to meet essential needs while focusing on healing,” said Kerry McCracken, Executive Director for The Children’s Assessment Center. “Kolache Factory’s continued support has had a profound impact. Every pair of shoes represents comfort, care, and reassurance for children as they begin their recovery.”
Shoes are among the most requested items for children, yet they are difficult for The CAC to consistently stock due to rapid growth and wear. Thanks to Kolache Factory’s generosity 1,270 pairs of shoes and thousands of socks have been provided over the years, helping children feel celebrated, cared for, and supported during their healing journey.
“We are truly humbled to receive the 2025 Cherish the Child Award,” said Dawn Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer of Kolache Factory. “This recognition belongs as much to our customers and team members as it does to our brand. Their generosity has made this community effort possible, and we are honored to support children and families through The Children’s Assessment Center.”
Texas is among the states with the highest rates of sex trafficking in the United States. Child sexual abuse affects every gender, race, and neighborhood. The Children’s Assessment Center is the only child advocacy center serving Harris County, providing protective and healing services for children who have experienced sexual abuse, as well as support for siblings and non-offending caregivers. The Rainbow Room helps meet basic needs in a safe, comforting environment that promotes dignity and healing.
